After doing onsite optimization like Titles, heading, Meta description and proper URL one should start with off site optimization. Basically offsite optimization consists in getting back links to the site. In order to position well your page read a few useful tips about both types of optimization.
1. Re-optimize your page
After your page is indexed by search engines and is few moths old, analyze your keyword reports in Google Analytic. Use also Google Webmaster tools to see their positions. You will find out that some of them rank pretty high and some of your favorite ones are out of the radar. So idea is to rearrange your page in sense to give more focus to keywords that rank well. Expose them more. Include them in Title and description if they are not already there. Changing URL is more subtle as you will have to make a redirect, so that search engines will find the new ones.
2. Dig dipper
Once you positioned well your page, hopefully on the first place in search engines, start digging dipper. You found your gold mine. So try to explore and extract all the value it contains.
3. Spread back linking
Be patient and build back links in a “natural way”. Don’t fire all your guns first week and then forget about you page. In a natural linking process a back links would be spanned over time. Simulate this process and use variable anchor text for your back links as in natural linking would occur.
4. Use Link bait
Try to add something fresh, not yet seen or very useful to your site. Then contact webmasters of sites that could be interested in this value added information. If you are offering something interesting they could back link to your site.
5. Article marketing
Create your own links using Web 2.0 sites or article directories. This is the easiest way to obtain back links. Open new lens or hubs on Squidoo and Hubpages. Pick appropriate Url containing your keyword and write an article. Put back links to your main (landing) page. Make few back links otherwise you may be warned for spamming. Don’t forget to use appropriate anchor text. Support this second tier pages with links to them too. At least make back links to them from Social networks like Facebook and Twitter.
6. Add more content
Recently a Google’s Mayday algorithm is said to cause small sites (below 15 pages) to drop in SERP positions. Google favors authority sites. Authority seems to be also quantity not only quality. So try to add some articles which may target long tail keywords.
